Back 2 School

IMG_7278

✿ You know when you write something in your planner for weeks & weeks in advance and it seems like it’s in forever and that day won’t arrive any time soon until it creeps up on you and you’re left thinking “WHERE did time go?”? Yeah, that’s me right now. School starts today and I’m feeling certain kinds of way about it. Part of me is excited about this new semester; all the new information I’ll be learning, the cute notebooks I’ll be filling with valuable knowledge (and doodles), and…and well that’s basically it. The other part of me is saying NO THANKS; making me want to stick out my tongue, stomp my feet, and exclaim “I’m not ready!! Give me another week!”. This semester I’m practically a hermit though, with mostly online classes and one on campus. Which is GREAT! I’m still trying to change my one campus class to an online one, so fingers & toes crossed that I can! (Drop/Add week don’t fail me now..)

Adorable Kissy Total Solar Eclipse Sun & Moon from ThinkGeek

✿ Coincidentally, the Solar Eclipse happens to fall today as well! It’s the first since 1918 that we’ll be seeing the total solar eclipse travel across America! In Miami, this is what we’ll be seeing:
miamieclipese
If you’re interested to see what it’ll look like in your neck of the woods, check it out here!
Unfortunately, I don’t have any plans to watch it since I’ll be working. I know we’ve all probably have heard to not stare at the eclipse with naked eyes because it can cause real serious damage to them…and well, it’s true! According to NASA, “The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as ‘eclipse glasses.'” If you, for some dumb reason, decide to look at the sun with your naked eye during the eclipse, you can burn your retina. This means that you’ll damage the images your brain can view. If this does happen, you’ll cause temporary or permanent vision impairment, and could possibly become blind. So, if you’re reading this before the eclipse happens, don’t do it! Don’t stare at it with unprotected eyes! IF you did in fact stare at it with out any protection, then you won’t be able to read this in the first place…so, sorry dude.

✿ So anywho, today I decided to wear my NASA shirt because it’s just soooo apropos, no? And paired it with my Star Wars “Rey Rebel Bag”. It kinda has that retro airlines feel to it, which I absolutely adore. Story behind the bag: I went to BoxLunch (the one in International Mall in Miami, FL) on a random Tuesday a couple of weeks ago, and they were having a Buy 1, Get 2 Free clearance sale. YES. THAT’S RIGHT. Buy one, get TWO FREE. So, ofcourse I hopped on that clearance train and snagged this and another bag that is similar, except that it says Pokémon Trainer (which I will be posting about later on!). It’s pretty spacious (my camera fits in it if I want the boxy look), and perfect for school notebooks and misc supplies.

IMG_7077

And it’s got a little chain with a BB-8 and the word Scavenger attached to it. Pretty adorbs, no?

✿ Are you heading back to school today, too? If so, do you like to dress up (you know how important first impressions are), or do you go for a more relaxed look? And if you’re an FIU student, like me, and spot me on campus, feel free to say hi! ◕ᴗ◕✿

Coopers’ Craft Summer Sippers Blogger Event

IMG_3803

A couple of Saturdays ago I got to attend a South Florida Bloggers event for Coopers’ Craft Bourbon at House Kitchen & Bar in Coral Gables. I had a real blast trying out different cocktails and hanging out with fellow bloggers!

IMG_3876Of all the cocktails I tried, my favorite one was the Coopers’ Cup. First of all, it came in a real cute tin cup..which we got to keep! The drink itself was smooth and it didn’t make my throat burn like crazy. I really liked the combination of bourbon + ginger beer.

In case you’re dying to know how to create this drink, here’s the recipe!
(All recipes are courtesy of Henry from ABC Bartending)

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Coopers’ Craft
  • 1 part fresh lime juice
  • top with ginger beer (roughly 6 parts)
  • Served over crushed ice in tin cup, garnished with mint sprig

Instructions:
Combine Coopers’ Craft Bourbon with lime juice. Add ginger beer and serve over ice in tin cup. Garnish with mint Sprig.

The next cocktail we tried was the Kentucky Luxedo. IMG_3828

  • 1/4 part Maraschino Liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Muddled Sugar Cube

Instructions:

The last cocktail was the After Barrel. We actually learnt how to make this one ourselves!
IMG_3975-2

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Cooper’s Craft Bourbon
  • 5 Blueberries
  • 4 Sliced Strawberries
  • 1/2 oz. Peach liquor
  • Orange Bitters

Instructions:
Place blueberries and strawberries in a shaker. Pour Peach liquor over the berries. Muddle the strawberries, blueberries and peach liquor to release the juices. Add Cooper’s Craft Bourbon and orange bitters for a nice tang. Add ice cubes and shake. Pour and enjoy!
IMG_3983IMG_3987IMG_3989IMG_3972
This was probably the most pretty looking one!

We also got to try very delicious foods from House Kitchen & Bar:
IMG_3901IMG_3902IMG_3908
Everything was so yummy! I definitely recommend this place. It was my first time trying their food and I was extremely satisfied. My favorite was probably the Margarita pizza (ofcourse!).

Here are some more pictures of the event. I loved the whole set up.

Blast from the Past: Halloween- Lydia Deetz

Even though Halloween is more than 2 months away, with the way this year is flying by, it’ll be here before we know it! Which is pretty fantastic because it’s my favorite month of the year (yes Halloween should be a whole month).
Nabila, it’s way too early for a Halloween post, don’t ya think? I know, I know. But the other day I went to Costco and, to my surprise, they already had numerous amounts of Halloween costumes and decorations in display! So, that got me thinking…What should I dress up as for Halloween this year?
A little of my past Halloweens history: costumes that deserve a notable mention have consisted of a cute Butterfly (1988), a pumpkin (1994), a blue Genie –à la I dream of Jeannie (1995),  Zatanna Zatara (2009), Dead Roller Derby Girl (2010), Amelia Earhart(2011), Wednesday Addams(2012-2013), Lydia Deetz (2014), and Link (2015).

My absolute favorite Halloween costume of all time is Lydia Deetz (from Beetlejuice).
lydiadeetz1

Two Halloweens ago, like every year, I waited until the very last minute to choose a Halloween costume. After being Wednesday Addams for two years in a row, I knew I couldn’t be Wednesday again. So, I searched my brain for costume possibilities, mostly this consisted of looking inside my closet and trying to visualize something. That was a solid failure until out of nowhere the name Lydia Deetz appeared in my brain. What an epiphany that was! I still remember it like it was yesterday. I had everything in my closet, minus the black floppy wool hat (Forever 21). After wearing this ensemble for a day, I was obsessed with the look. And still am!

I think, if I could dress up as Lydia Deetz everyday, I would.

One day I’d like to dress up in the red wedding dress she wears!

This year I’m doing things differently. I’ve already thought of a couple of possibilities and I want to thank Pinterest for helping me out here. There’s Spinelli from Recess (when I was a kid, I wanted to be badass like her! Still do…), a Team Rocket member,  or Eleven. OR maybe I’ll do all three?? I mean, I’m a firm believer that Halloween should be a full month!

Will you be dressing up this Halloween?? Are you the type to procrastinate til the very end like me? Or do you formulate ideas months & months in advance? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Do you have that one dress that you want to eat, sleep, dance, work, and basically just live in for all of eternity? I do. I call this the Star Wars dress because it’s my favorite Star Wars dress and I want to do just that. As a lover of galaxy prints and stars, it was inevitable for me to fall in love.

Vader Easter Bunny~

Do you ever just find something in your closet that you completely forgot you owned and as soon as you touch the fabric all these memories just shwoosh right back into your life? This happened to me yesterday morning when I was contemplating what to wear to my family’s Easter get-together. Last time I wore this dress..heck, the last time I saw it with my own two eyes, was back in 2007 for Grad Nite. That’s right, 9 years ago. This means one of two things: either A. I haven’t cleaned out my closet in 9 years, which is pretty possible…OR B. there’s a black hole in there and it mysteriously burped out the dress when it heard my pleas, causing me to find it. IDK. All I know is that I was glad I found it because I had no idea what I was going to wear.

Whenever I think of Easter in terms of fashion, I think of pastel colors and flowers and pretty dresses. Since I don’t own a flowery pastel-colored pretty dress, I really wasn’t sure what I was going to wear and was ready for a “what-the-hell-am-I-gonna-wear”battle. But then that thing happened and I found this flowery dress. Now, it’s not pastel and it’s prettiness can be questionable (I mean, I think it’s pretty…but you, dear reader, might not think so… it is rather outdated..idk) but as soon as I saw it I knew it was the one. Kind of like when I was a Senior looking for the perfect outfit to wear to Grad Nite. I remember looking everywhere and nothing was convincing me..but then I saw this dress at Forever21 and just knew. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a dress…it might be one of those long shirts you’re supposed to wear with leggings (I remember that being in style back in ’07). But, since I’m a short one, I get to wear it as a dress. Although, if I remember correctly, I wore black tights to Grad Nite…’cos this is still a pretty short “dress”.

ANYWHO, so yeah. This is what I wore for Easter~ Do you have any go-to Easter fashion trends?

Chibi Legend of Zelda

IMG_1676-2_2ndcrop

The award for finding the coolest tshirts online goes to my boyfriend. For Christmas 2015, he gave me this rad Hilda shirt from Redbubble. Hilda is from the video game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. She is the princess of Lorule, a parallel world to Hyrule. She is also her world’s counterpart of Princess Zelda, sharing a physical resemblance as well as similar attire. As a fan of purple hair and purple lipstick, as soon as her character was introduced I fell in love. Hilda is someone I see myself cosplaying as in the future. I love Zelda, but Hilda is just..I dunno..cooler. In appearance anyways.

When I first saw these Chibi Zelda leggings (which btw are discontinued, sorry. I wish LivingDeadClothing would bring them back!) I knew they were meant to be mine. They’re sooo frakin’ cute! It’s got chibi forms of  Link and Zelda of course, Ganondorf,  Midna, Skull Kid, Dark Link, Fi, Sheik, Vaati, the Happy Mask Salesman, and even Epona! It’s pretty cool how all these characters fit so well together..and there’s so many! Have you ever played a Legend of Zelda game? Do you have a favorite? I’m currently playing Ocarina of Time (gosh, I’ve been playing this game for ages…damn you real life priorities!).

gif time!

Fashionably Vader

vader        When I was a little girl, I dreamt about wearing this dress. It belonged to my godmother and I loved seeing her wear it. She made it about 25 (or so) years ago. Yup, that’s right, she sew’d it together and voilà, made a dress. Having an aunt who makes her own clothes is pretty rad, especially when she makes clothes for you. It’s been a while since she’s sewn anything, but the clothes she’s made in the past are pretty fantastic. She’s made me flamenco dresses (I’ll have to make a post about them one day…surprisingly, they still fit! Not sure if I should feel proud about that considering I was 14 at the time), my 15’s dress (which was a gauzy purple dream), and other pieces here and there. She’s amazing. When I was a kid I wanted to learn how to sew just like her. I visualized myself wearing my own designs and never having to go back to the mall again. Heck, I still do! No, I never learnt how to sew, but never say never, amirite? It’s still something I want to learn how to do.

Anywho, back to this dress; when I turned 17 I inherited it and for years I kept it in my closet. Every single time I looked at it, it made me feel nostalgic and nice inside (is that weird?…) and I daydreamed about what things the dress had seen, and what it knew. I took it with me to Tallahassee when I lived there and even pinned it on my wall like hipsters do. It was my favorite dress. At the time I didn’t like wearing long dresses. They made me feel short (I am short!) and I guess I hadn’t come to terms with that. Which is why after 9 yrs of owning the dress, I wore it for the first time last year and it fit me perfectly. I imagined my aunt wearing it and thought “How cool is it that it fits me! This is history!”

About the Vader mask: a silly idea I had at 3am one time. “Lady Vader”. Darth Vader meets fashion. Idk…it seemed like a good idea at the time, hah.
