The Adventures of One Tiny Dinosaur

Processed with

Recently I found this tiny dinosaur I got from Photojojo a couple of years ago. It was hiding in a tiny crook in my closet. It was 2am when the light bulb that constantly floats on top of my head lit up💡
So listen, this is a new photo series featuring the One Tiny Dinosaur called Archer. The adventures of a tiny dinosaur in not so tiny places ✨

(So, for this shot I had to raise my leg in mid air as if I was some sort of ballerina dancer/ yoga master. You can’t tell, but my leg was shaking like crazy. I definitely need to work out more and build resistance 💪🏼 lol)

Stay tuned for more of his adventures! ❤ ^_^

Geek Girl Brunch Miami- Sailor Moon

IMG_1228.jpg

I’ve been meaning to write about Geek Girl Brunch Miami for a while now, and look I’m finally doing it! I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts for the past 6 months, and I know I know, that’s pretty terrible. But better late than never, amirite?
Geek Girl Brunch Miami has been such  an amazing thing in my life, that if it was disbanded tomorrow I would cry enough to make an 8th ocean.

When I moved back to Miami from Tallahassee a couple of years ago, I didn’t have the group of amazing ladies I now call friends. Most of my evenings and weekends consisted of hanging out with my boyfriend Erik, or family. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE spending time with Erik and I enjoy the times I spend with my family, but a girl needs girl friends and I didn’t really have any when I moved back. My memory is sometimes shitty, so I can’t really remember how I learned about Geek Girl Brunch, but I will tell you this: the first time I went to a Geek Girl Brunch outing I felt like I finally came home. These were girls that shared the same interests and tastes about tv shows, movies, video games, animes, etc. I felt like I had struck gold! And I was sooo giddy.

Since I waited super long to post about the awesomeness that is Geek Girl Brunch Miami, I’m going to be posting about the several brunches I’ve attended throughout these 2 years (woahh, has it been two years already??!). Since there’s SO MANY I’ve attended (about 14…say whaaat), I will be dedicating Time Travel Thursdays to each one (my version of #throwbackthursday, hehe).

So, before I get started; What is Geek Girl Brunch? Geek Girl Brunch is basically a community of geeky women who get together once a month to brunch and geek over geeky things. Each brunch is themed and everyone is encouraged to dress up in their favorite geeky attire or cosplay. Themes we’ve had include Harry Potter, Sherlock, Sailor Moon, Game of Thrones, Video Games, Murder Boyfriends (hah, I know you’ll understand in time), Star Wars Rogue One, and many many more.

Sooo, let’s get started! The Sailor Moon themed brunch took place many moons ago, on February 2016. This isn’t the very first brunch I attended, but it’s the first one I’ll be sharing with you, dear reader. When I was looking through my external for all the brunch pics I’ve taken (which btw, there’s about a gajillion!), these were the first ones that popped up.

The Sailor Moon themed brunch was held at Ra Sushi in South Miami. The staff surprised us with their own Sailor Moon decorations!

Check out if there’s a chapter in your neck of the woods here.

I Am Groot

A while back I went to the movies and I saw the coolest popcorn bucket ever. There on display was Groot staring at me, calling my name, “I am Groot”…which translated to “Nabila, buy me”. I normally never buy food at movie theaters; we all know how obscenely expensive it is. With the price of what you pay, you can easily buy 2 more movie tickets. BUT…how can I say no to Groot, amirite? So I bought a $11 bucket of popcorn just for Groot.
I immediately knew I wanted to turn popcorn bucket Groot into a potted planter Groot. It’s just so perfect, ya know? How could I not? So, I went to my Abuelita’s garden and looked for a plant that would be perfect for Groot. I wanted it to appear as if Groot had hair coming out of it’s head. Unfortunately, Abuelita didn’t have a plant like the one I envisioned in her garden, so I ran to Home Depot and the plant that I found couldn’t have been more perfect!

I actually don’t remember what this plant is called, I just know that it blooms during the day and becomes a hermit at night. According to my Abuelita, they’re nicknamed “Buenos Dias” or “Sonrisa de Gaitan”. According to my mum, they should be called “Mata Despelucada” (translates to: Messy Hair Plant). You know, it kinda looks like me when I wake up…
If anyone knows the name of this plant, let me know please! 🙂

Coopers’ Craft Summer Sippers Blogger Event

IMG_3803

A couple of Saturdays ago I got to attend a South Florida Bloggers event for Coopers’ Craft Bourbon at House Kitchen & Bar in Coral Gables. I had a real blast trying out different cocktails and hanging out with fellow bloggers!

IMG_3876Of all the cocktails I tried, my favorite one was the Coopers’ Cup. First of all, it came in a real cute tin cup..which we got to keep! The drink itself was smooth and it didn’t make my throat burn like crazy. I really liked the combination of bourbon + ginger beer.

In case you’re dying to know how to create this drink, here’s the recipe!
(All recipes are courtesy of Henry from ABC Bartending)

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Coopers’ Craft
  • 1 part fresh lime juice
  • top with ginger beer (roughly 6 parts)
  • Served over crushed ice in tin cup, garnished with mint sprig

Instructions:
Combine Coopers’ Craft Bourbon with lime juice. Add ginger beer and serve over ice in tin cup. Garnish with mint Sprig.

I loved the Coopers’ Cup so much, that I took a million pictures of it!

I’m just really obsessed with these tin cups & mint sprig….

The next cocktail we tried was the Kentucky Luxedo. IMG_3828
The recipe for this one:
Ingredients:

  • 1 part Coopers’ Craft
  • 1/4 part Maraschino Liqueur
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Muddled Sugar Cube

Instructions:
Combine Coopers’ and Maraschino Liqueur into a mixing glass and stir with a bar spoon. Muddle sugar and bitters at the bottom of an old fashioned glass. Add ice and strain into a mixing glass into glass with sugar and bitter mixture. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry.

IMG_3841IMG_3845

The last cocktail was the After Barrel. We actually learnt how to make this one ourselves!
IMG_3975-2

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Cooper’s Craft Bourbon
  • 5 Blueberries
  • 4 Sliced Strawberries
  • 1/2 oz. Peach liquor
  • Orange Bitters

Instructions:
Place blueberries and strawberries in a shaker. Pour Peach liquor over the berries. Muddle the strawberries, blueberries and peach liquor to release the juices. Add Cooper’s Craft Bourbon and orange bitters for a nice tang. Add ice cubes and shake. Pour and enjoy!
IMG_3983IMG_3987IMG_3989IMG_3972
This was probably the most pretty looking one!

We also got to try very delicious foods from House Kitchen & Bar:
IMG_3901IMG_3902IMG_3908
Everything was so yummy! I definitely recommend this place. It was my first time trying their food and I was extremely satisfied. My favorite was probably the Margarita pizza (ofcourse!).

Here are some more pictures of the event. I loved the whole set up.

Hatch Miami

IMG_0634
Last month I attended Hatch Miami, an outdoor craft fair showcasing amazing talented women vendors. Everything from beautiful artwork, super cute handmade goodies, delicious food & drinks, performances, and other provisions. It was great seeing so many lady bosses in one place! I went almost crazy buying and taking lots of pictures of everything. I didn’t get a chance to go to every single vendor (why, I dunno? and I’m kicking myself for it), but next time Hatch Miami rolls into town, I’m definitely going to make it a goal to visit every single one.
So like I said, I took a million photos. Here are some of my favorites. If you like what you see, be sure to click on the links that’ll take you straight to the vendors!

Video Game Pin Collection

D316E4FF-F338-452F-898B-EEA87B30BD4EI am obsessed with pins. Just like how I’m obsessed with Breath of the Wild, little plastic dinosaurs, and Pizza Hut’s creamy-garlic-parmesan-sauce pepperoni pizza. I discovered my love/need for pins a little over a year ago, and even though my wallet gently weeps about it, I couldn’t be more happier. There’s just something about putting a pin on your shirt/purse/bookbag/camera strap that brings an outfit together. It takes it from a 100 to a 1000. My pin collection is all over the place (kinda like my life); from video games to cute kawaii stuff, from X-files to Star Wars. I tried keeping it one themed (color-wise or theme-wise so that when I put them all together on a pin board it’d look super amazing), but the truth of the matter is, I like A LOT of stuff. Generally, if I like it and think it’s super cute or super cool, it’s gotta be mine.

So anywho, this post is dedicated to my video game pin collection. If we were looking at a pie chart right now, 40% would be filled with “video games”.

Alrighty! On with the show!

This Meowth is holding a pokeball and it is stupid cute. I just love the little x’s covering it’s lil bootyhole. Back when Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector was popular, there were a whole bunch of adorable kitty pins that were styled like the kitties in the game. I think this was around the same time that Pokemon Go came out, and since I’m all about that Pokemon life, as soon as I saw this particular pin, I fell in love. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you where it’s from because the online store I got it from has been disabled 😦

Processed with VSCO with c1 presetThis next pin caught my eye because its purple and sparkly and I love purple sparkly things. Also, the fact that it’s a freaking Nintendo 64 controller, which is probably my favorite controller of all time. I know that a lot of gamers hate this controller because it’s really uncomfortable, but I dunno, I like it! It’s weird, awkward, looks like a 3 and I like that. Or maybe it’s the nostalgia. I have a lot of fond memories about this controller, mostly because it was the first console that I was allowed to play (my brother and cousins always needed a 4th player for Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Golden Eye, or Turok).  ANYWHO, I liked it so I bought it. If I ever see a sparkly ps3 controller, I’ll buy it too!

If you also like the N64 controller and want to add it to your collection, check out Famtastic Apparel.

How adorable is this Pokemon Snap pin? I’m a photographer so OFCOURSE I had to get this pin from The Yetee (yes, they sell pins too!) I never played Pokemon Snap as a kid since I didn’t own an N64, but I played it way later with my boyfriend’s. It’s amazing and I really wish Nintendo would make a new version. (Pokemon Go doesn’t count, ok?) In Pokemon Sun/Moon they had a camera feature, but I want a full blown Pokemon Snap game where the only mission is “Gotta Photograph ‘Em All”.

Probably my favorite pin ever: the Chain Chomp/BB8 mashup from BB-cre8. I am a huge sucker for chained pins because I can wear them with collared shirts & dresses and it looks hella good. When I saw this mashup, I couldn’t resist. First of all, BB8! Duh! And secondly, Chain Chomp is my favorite Super Mario baddie. Honestly, it’s just misunderstood. All it wants to do is play! When I bought this guy, I was playing A Link to the Past for the first time and Chain Chomp makes an appearance in that game. I think I had just gone through this scene, so my feelings toward this cuteness were fresh and one thing lead to another and boom, it was mine!

Ok, so my boyfriend loves Mega Man. When I say he loves Mega Man, I mean he rrrreally loves Mega Man. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m 76% sure that he loves Mega Man more than he loves me. One of these days I’ll show you his Mega Man collection and you’re going to fall down the stairs in shock.
When I first started dating Erik, he challenged me to play all the Mega Man games. And I did (with the exception of Mega Man X). I played Mega Man 1-10, Mega Man & Bass, Mega Man Legends, Mega Man Powered Up (Which btw, I’m so mad at Capcom for never releasing this amazing game-the BEST Mega Man game in my humble opinion- on any other console other than the PSP. UGH CAPCOM WHY).
He was impressed. Damn right he was.
Anyway, back to pin talk…Erik and I found this ProtoMan pin, in a pin set also featuring Mega Man, Roll, Dr. Light, and Wily, at ThinkGeek. ThinkGeek had just opened at Dolphin Mall and it was our first purchase. We got matching sets because we’re nerds. Out of all the Mega Man characters, I think my favorite is ProtoMan. He’s just so mysterious, ya know? I also like Beat. There needs to be a Beat pin!

Processed with VSCO with n1 preset
Because my boyfriend’s love for Mega Man has rubbed off on me (or perhaps it’s because Mega Man simply reminds me of him) I added this pin from SquaredCo to my collection. I love drawing Mega Man’s helmet for some reason, soooo yeah. SquaredCo also has ProtoMan, Zero, and Xs’ helmets so if you’re into that you should check it out.

I LOVE Kirby. Kirby was my first favorite Video Game character and so when I saw that OtherWorldShop had the Star Rod, my eyes turned into huge hearts. It’s the cutest thing, isn’t it?? I would really love to own more adorable Kirby pins. (Totally off topic, but I’d love Sailor Moon’s Crescent Moon wand and the Spiral Heart Moon rod in this pin form. Heck, I’d love to see all of the Sailor Scouts’ transformation pens too! I’D BUY THEM ALL!!)

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset
I really love the style of this I Choose You pin from SuperTeamDeluxe. If I had my way, I’d have the same hand holding either a rupee, a 1-up mushroom, or a bell bag from Animal Crossing. That’d look cute, no?  Yes.
Processed with VSCO with q5 preset
Snorlax and Chill is hilarious and that’s basically why I got this pin. If you think it’s hilarious too, you can get it at The Sunday Co.

D316E4FF-F338-452F-898B-EEA87B30BD4E
My most recent pin purchase is this Master Sword pin from JustPeachy. This is actually my first Legend of Zelda pin and I’m actually quite horrified that it took me that long to acquire one. For those that don’t know, I am currently obsessed with Breath of the Wild. Heck, I’m obsessed with everything Zelda. I’m actually on a journey right now, playing through all the Zelda games (some for the very first time!). Besides BotW (since that’s gonna take me 4ever and a day because I never want it to end), I’m also currently playing Link’s Awakening. This is my first time playing it and I gotta say, I really like it! I absolutely love the Ballad of the Wind Fish song. It’s been on repeat for days.

So, I realize that I want need more Kirby, Zelda, Animal Crossing (I DON’T HAVE ANY OF THOSE WHAT), and Metroid pins. (I have a Metroid pin that I haven’t taken any photos of yet, but I will soon!) Also, I’d love some Bioshock pins. Bioshock Infinite was the first first-person shooter game I beat and ugh it was so good and I just want some ok.
I also want a Boo pin.

I just really want to see more cute video game themed pins out there. If I could, I would totally design and make some of my own, but alas I was not graced with those creative drawing juices. If you know some pins that I would totally love, send their links my way! 🙂 ❤

Note : if you ever want to cook waffles and take them to a Stranger Things party (or any party), don’t. Unless there’s a toaster at the party, don’t do it. Because instead of having yummy waffles, you’re going to have soggy ass waffles. And no one likes soggy ass waffles.
